The reading and writing lessons at the special school with a special focus on intellectual development are not limited to the acquisition of the written language,

but:

Reading is also the understanding of:

  • Pictograms
  • Signal words and
  • Whole words.

Writing is also:

  • Create traces with your feet and hands
  • Scribble
  • Scheme drawings
  • First letter font
  • Phonetic spelling
  • Write with ready-made picture and word cards

The pupil can not only make sense with letters, but also by scribbling, painting or letter-like characters.

He / she can also use picture and word cards for messages, from which the reader can derive meaning by arranging them in a meaningful way.

These "extended reading and writing lessons" are often integrated into lesson plans that are geared towards the practical needs of the pupils.

In addition to the interdisciplinary promotion of reading and writing skills, all pupils receive specialist lessons in “reading and writing”, in which the content and goals are specially adapted to individual learning requirements.

Schoolchildren who can learn to read the written language are supported with special reading courses. With special consideration of the learning pace and the necessary frequent repetition to consolidate the developed content, it is about learning the letters, the synthetic reading and the extraction of meaning from simple texts. Everyday and practical texts (e.g. TV programs, simple recipes or similar instructions) are used in the classroom at all learning levels. Especially with advanced students, however, the discussion of other texts (stories, poems, magazines, etc.) is aimed at and supported.
